Administrative data
First-aid measures
- Inhalation: Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Rinse nose and mouth with water. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.
- Ingestion: Immediately rinse mouth and drink plenty of water. Keep person under observation. If person becomes uncomfortable seek hospital and bring these instructions. NEVER MAKE AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON VOMIT OR DRINK FLUIDS!
- Skin contact: Remove affected person from source of contamination. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash the skin immediately with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation persists after washing.
- Eye contact: Remove victim immediately from source of exposure. Make sure to remove any contact lenses from the eyes before rinsing. Promptly wash eyes with plenty of water while lifting the eye lids. Get medical attention immediately. Continue to rinse.
Fire-fighting measures
- Extingguishing media: Extinguish with foam, carbon dioxide or dry powder. Do not use water as an extinguisher.
- Special fire fighting procedures: Use water SPRAY only to cool containers! Do not put water on leaked material. Do not allow to enter drains, sewers or watercourses.
- Unusual fire & expolsion hazards: Decomposes slowly with water to yield 2-ethylhexaldehyde (flammable). Vapours may form explosive air mixtures even at room temperature.
- Specific hazards: In case of fire, toxic gases may be formed (COx, NOx).
- Protective measures in fire: Use air-supplied respirator during fire fighting.
Accidental release measures
- Personal precautions: Wear protective clothing as described in Section 8 of the safety data sheet. Eye contact MUST be prevented by means of suitable personal protection equipment.
- Environmental precautions: Do not allow to enter drains, sewers or watercourses. Spillages or uncontrolled discharges into watercourses must be IMMEDIATELY alerted to the Environmental Agency or other appropriate regulatory body.
- Spill and clean up methods: Stop leak if possible without risk. Extinguish all ignition sources. Avoid sparks, flames, heat and smoking. Ventilate. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Flush with plenty of water to clean spillage area. Vapours may form explosive air mixtures even at room temperature. Containers with collected spillage must be properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbol. Do not contaminate water sources or sewer.
Handling and storage
- Usage precautions: Avoid inhalation of vapours/spray and contact with skin and eyes. Decomposes slowly with water to yield isobutyraldehyde (flammable).
Risk of vapour concentration on the floor and in low-lying areas. Vapours may form explosive air mixtures even at room temperature. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame.
- Storage conditions: Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Open only when ready for use and reseal part used containers after use. Keep in original container. Avoid contact with water. Avoid exposure to high temperatures or direct sunlight.
- Storage class: Chemical storage.

Exposure controls / personal protection
- Ingredient comments: WEL = Workplace Exposure Limits
- Protective equipment: goggles, gloves
- Process conditions: Provide eyewash station.
- Engineering measures: Provide adequate ventilation.
- Respiration equipment: In case of inadequate ventilation use suitable respirator.
- Hand protection: Use protective gloves made of: Neoprene, nitrile, polyethylene or PVC. Barrier cream applied before work may make it easier to clean the skin after exposure, but does not prevent absorption through the skin.
- Eye protection: Wear approved, tight fitting safety glasses where splashing is probable.
- Other protection: Wear appropriate clothing to prevent any possibility of skin contact.
- Hygiene measures: DO NOT SMOKE IN WORK AREA! Wash at the end of each work shift and before eating, smoking and using the toilet. Promptly remove any clothing that becomes contaminated. Use appropriate skin cream to prevent drying of skin. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.
Stability and reactivity
- Stability: Stable under normal temperature conditions.
- Conditions to avoid: Avoid contact with water. Decomposes slowly with water to yield 2-ethylhexaldehyde (flammable). Vapours may form explosive air mixtures even at room temperature.
- Hazardous decomposition products: Fire creates: Carbon monoxide (CO). Carbon dioxide (CO2).
Disposal considerations
- General information: Waste to be treated as controlled waste. Disposal to licensed waste disposal site in accordance with local Waste Disposal Authority.
- Disposal methods: Do not allow runoff to sewer, waterway or ground. Incinerate with adequate scrubbing and ash disposal.
