Description of key information
Corfree® M1 has some smaller carboxylic acids that are slightly soluble in water, but the higher carboxylic acids are less soluble due to the increasing hydrophobic alkyl chain.
For a complex substance as the test substance, REACH end-point specific guidance prescribes the flask method at (at least) two nominal concentrations combined with a non-discriminating analytical method.
Flask method was performed at 5 loading rates (see table below). At each loading rate, 3 vessels were prepared by weighing test substance into the glass vessel and adding double distilled water. The content of each vessel was stirred for 24, 48 or 72 hours at 20.5 ± 0.6°C on a magnetic stirring device. As the blank, 200 ml water was stirred for 72 hours. After stirring, the water mixtures were filtered through a 150 mm diameter blue ribbon, 583/3 paper filter (Whatman, Germany) and analysed. The pH of each filtrate (except for the blank) was measured.
Additional test: 1000 ml double distilled water was added to 1.069 mg of test substance in a glass vessel. After stirring for 72 hours at 20.5 ± 0.6°C on a magnetic stirring device, the mixture was checked visually for undissolved material.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
Using the flask method at 20°C and 5 loading rates followed by TOC analysis, the substance concentration in the water mixture was determined to be:
4.7 mg/l at a loading rate of 5 mg/l
38 mg/l at a loading rate of 50 mg/l
181 mg/l at a loading rate of 500 mg/l
530 mg/l at a loading rate of 5000 mg/l
3731 mg/l at a loading rate of 50000 mg/l
In all test mixtures (including 1 mg/L nominal), undissolved material was observed visually.
