No acute toxicity observed in reliable studies at the nominal limit concentration of 1000 mg/L (analytically verified) for freshwater fish or up to the highest tested nominal concentration of 1000 mg/L for marine fish.

For the very well soluble compound 6-(isononanoylamino)hexanoic acid, compound with 2,2’,2’’-nitrilotriethanol a reliable acute toxicity test (reliability category 2, GLP-compliance) performed according to OECD 203 (1992) on Danio rerio clearly demonstrate that no toxicity is observed up to the tested limit concentration of 1000 mg/L. Neither at nominal 1000 mg/L nor in the control was any mortality observed during the test. No adverse effects on swimming or breathing or general behavior and no altered appearance were observed. The limit concentrations were analytically verified by DOC analysis (mean values: 852.6 mg/L.

6-(isononanoylamino)hexanoic acid is reported to be not soluble in water. Also this substance was tested on Danio rerio for acute toxicity (OECD 203, GLP compliance). At the two lower tested concentrations (220 and 500 mg/L) slight depositions at the bottom and surface of test basins were observed, while at 1000 mg/L heavy depositions and floating particulate matter were noted. Up to 500 mg/L no lethality was observed, while at 1000 mg/L all fish died. Sub-lethal effects were noted at 220 and 500 mg/L. As particulate matter is reported for all test solutions and especially at 1000 mg/L, physical interaction is most probably causal for observed effects and the otherwise well performed study is assessed as not reliable.

In addition, for 6-(isononanoylamino)hexanoic acid, compound with 2,2’,2’’-nitrilotriethanol a GLP-conform test on acute toxicity to salt water fish (Turbot, Scophthalmus maximus) was performed in accordance with PARCOM (1995) method and OECD 203 as a semi-static test with change of test medium after 48 hours (reliability category 2). In accordance with the above test results, up to the highest tested concentration of 1000 mg/L no mortality was observed (96 hours).

In conclusion, by read across from the similar substance 6-(isononanoylamino)hexanoic acid, compound with 2,2’,2’’-nitrilotriethanol also 6-(isononanoylamino)hexanoic acid is regarded as inherently non-toxic to fish as regards solutions free from particulate matter.
