Description of key information

OCTANOIC ACID, ZINC SALT, BASIC:

Octanoic acid, zinc salt, basic is readily biodegradable. Based on the solubility of octanoic acid, zinc salt, basic in water, its environmental fate and pathways are defined by the mobility of zinc cations and octanoate anions under environmental conditions, and fatty acids (i.e. octanoate) degrade via the β-oxidation pathway. The Koc value of 69.63 L/kg for octanoic acid was estimated based on QSAR using EPISuite (V.4.00 - 4 .11) and a log Kow of 3.05. Transport and distribution coefficients are reported for zinc cations which will be released upon dissolution in water. However, 70 % of zinc is removed from the water column under reference conditions for EU regional waters (EUSES) (see section 5.6.: "removal from the water column").
