Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

RCR sediment < 1

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex X, section 9.5.1 long-term toxicity on sediment organisms does not need to be investigated if the outcome of the chemical safety assessment shows no indication of risk on sediment organisms from exposure to the substance in question. In a first step, the sediment PNEC for this substance has been derived from the aquatic PNECs using the equilibrium partitioning method (EqP). The aquatic PNECs have been derived using appropriate assessment factors. The risk characterization ratio (RCR) has demonstrated that there is no indication of risk i.e. PEC/PNEC sediment < 1 from current exposure conditions to this substance.

Furthermore, considering the ready biodegradation, the substance is expected to be rapidly removed within sewage treatment plants. In addition, due to the low log Kow (< 3) significant adsorption to sediment is not expected. As a consequence, chronic exposure of sediment organisms is unlikely to occur.

In conclusion, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex X, Column 2, 9.5.1, as the RCR sediment is < 1 and the substance is unlikely to be chronically present in sediment, no further effects of this substance on sediment organisms need to be investigated and a long-term test is therefore not required.
