Discussion

The temperature range of the test was extended to 400°C, as initial screening tests indicated that the test material melted (with decomposition) close to the 360°C maximum test temperature indicated in the guideline.

Similar thermographic profiles were obtained using air and nitrogen atmospheres; this indicates that the observed (melting with) decomposition is probably thermal and not oxidative.

Melting with decomposition was confirmed using a metal block test.

Conclusion

The test material has been determined to melt (with decomposition) at 627 ± 0.5 K.
