Aquatic toxicity

The following values have been selected for the purpose of risk assessment and classification. The studies were conclusive and the results are valid.

Short-term toxicity to fish: LC50(96h) = 5.3 mg/L, Tobler 2015

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates: EC50(48h) = 2.3 mg/L, Eckenstein 2015

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria: EC50(72h) = 3.7 mg/L, Tobler 2015

Toxicity to activated sludge: EC50(3h) = 249 mg/L, Eisner 2015

The most conservative value EC50(48h) = 2.3 mg/L (Daphnia magna) is carried forward for the purpose of risk assessment, classification and labelling.

Conclusion on classification

Acute aquatic toxicity

The lowest available effect level, EC50(48h) = 2.3 mg/L for Daphnia magna, does not trigger classification as Hazardous to the aquatic environment according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, Section 4.1.2.6.

Chronic aquatic toxicity

Adequate chronic toxicity data are not available. However,the lowest available effect level EC50(48h) = 2.3 mg/L for Daphnia magna,triggers classification as Hazardous to the aquatic environment Category Chronic 2, because the substance is not rapidly biodegradable according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, Table 4.1.0(iii).

Harmonised classification

The above classification is overwritten by the group entry classification for chloroanilines according to Table 3.1 to Annex VI of CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. The legally-binding classification is the following: Hazardous to the aquatic environment Acute Category 1 and Chronic Category 1.
