Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

O'Connor(2015) reported a clear endotherm interpreted as the melting point at approximately 77 °C. However, a graphic reading of the presented thermograms gave a melting point value of 81.58 °C (estimated uncertainty 3.5 °C). The study is performed with a heating ratio of 20 °C/min applied during the DSC experiment, potentially leading to increased uncertainty of the reading. Therefore, it can only be used to support the published values.

Thivet (2015) carried out a survey of available literature data for the melting point. The potential data sources were restricted to two bibliographic databases. Data from obvious secondary sources, and multiple reports of a numerically equivalent melting point by the same authors, were discarded as potential sources of bias due to data recycling. While none of the reported values are reliable in themselves due to lack of documentation, the close agreement between independently determined melting points, from independently synthesized samples, lends credibility to the result. The mean melting point and standard deviation was calculated as 77.46°C and will be taken forward for the purposes of risk assessment, as being most representative of the commercial substance. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.2, the survey for the melting point is considered sufficiently documented, and adequate for the purposes of risk assessment, and classification and labelling, based on a weight of evidence.
