Additional information
With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:
The acute toxicity of the test substance on zebra fish was measured in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 203. The LC50 value was determined to be greater than 450 mg/L (BASF SE 17/F0200/965034, 1998). Additionally, a read-across study on zebra fish is available. The LC50 value on the animals was found to be greater than 100 mg/L (BASF AG 17F0283/ 965066, 1997). Based on these data, the test substance is considered with as high probability acutely not harmful to fish.
The acute toxicity of the test substance on daphnids was measured in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 202. The EC0 value was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L (BASF AG 96/0251/50/1, 1996). Additionally, a read-across study on daphnids is available. The EC50 value on the animals was also found to be greater than 100 mg/L in this study (BASF AG 9610339/5011, 1997). Based on these data, the test substance is considered with as high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
In a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201 the EC50 value on the growth rate of green algae was determined to be 313 mg/L (Rohm and Haas 06RC-262, 2007). The NOEC was observed to be 50 mg/L. Therefore the tested substance is considered as acutely not harmful to algae.
The EC20 value of the test item on activated sludge was found to be greater than 100 mg/L in a guideline study according to OECD 209 (BASF AG 96/0251/08/1, 1996). This result is supported by a GLP study according to DIN EN ISO 10712 in which a EC10 value of 2680 mg/L was determined.
