Acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Acute tests on all three trophic levels are available for the of the submission item or analogous substances, respectively, which allow for the assessment of the aquatic toxicity of the registration item. This read across approach is considered in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. "Grouping of substance and read across approach" and is elucidated within the analogue justification attached to section 13 of this dossier.

Fish turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an LC50 (96h) of 1.76 mg/L. Thus, the submission item is considered to be acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. Effects of the submission item towards algae and water flea (Daphnia magna) were much less severe providing an ErC50 (72h) of >100 mg/L for algae and an EC50 (48h) of 90.94 mg/L for water flea. .

No data on aquatic long-term toxicity of the submission item are available.

The EC10 value of the test item on activated sludge was found to >100 mg/L in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 209. Hence, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
