Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
Category 1 (irreversible effects on the eye) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Classification: risk of serious damage to eyes
Executive summary:

In an eye irritation study according to OECD 405, 0.1 ml of the undiluted test substance was instilled into the conjunctival sac of one eye of a White Vienna rabbit. The eye was not washed out. The animal was observed for 15 days. After 1 hour, erythema, edema as well as corneal opacity were observed. The mean value of the scores after the 24, 48 and 72 hour reading for erythema, edema, iris and corneal opacity were calculated to be 2.0, 2.0, 0.3, and 1.0, respectively. The observed changes were not reversible within 15 days. Due to the observed effects metylpentynol has the potential to seriously damage the eyes.
