Description of key information

Acutely harmful to aquatic algae

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
24 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3.5 mg/L

Additional information

In a non-GLP, 72-hour static test with the green alga Scenedesmus subspicatus (new name: Desmodesmus subspicatus) according to EU method C.3, the algae toxicity of methylpentynol was investigated (BASF 1990). Statistical evaluation of the endpoint growth rate revealed an EC50 (72h) of 24 mg/L. The NOEC is <0.78 mg/l but is not evident whether it is related to the biomass or the growth rate.
