Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A BCF of 81.34 l/kg was estimated based on log Pow of 3.4 using the EPI Suite program, v.4.00. Since the estimated BCF is lower than 100 l/kg, MBS is considered as not bioaccumulative. The hydrolysis half-life of MBS is ca. 24 hour, and hence the BCF of the degradation products is considered as relevant for risk assessment of MBS in the environment. The experimentally determined BCF of mercaptobenzothiazple is lower than 8 (MITI, 1992), the value of benzothiazole in the range of 2.1-7.5 (EU-Risk assessment, 2008), and the one of morpholine lower than 2.8 (MITI, 1979). Therefore the breakdown products of MBS also have no bioaccumulation potential.
