Description of key information

In EC method A.14, it is expressly mentioned that experimental determination of the explosivity of a compound is not required if available thermodynamic data (reaction enthalpies) and/or the absence of certain reactive groups in the structural formula indicate that the substance will not decompose violently under formation of gases or release of energy (and thus does not pose a risk for explosivity). Thus, the conduct of further experimental verification is not considered to be required, due to the absence of certain reactive groups in the structural formula of Potassium Sorbate.

non explosive

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the chemical structure of potassium sorbate and according to the criteria for classification and labeling set out in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 the test item has no explosive properties.
