Under environmental conditions the substance will dissociate into its ions, acetate and the ethylviolet-cation. Acetate is not susceptible to hydrolysis at all, the ethylviolet-cation does not contain functional groups labile for hydrolysis.

After evaporation or exposure to the air, the ethylviolet-cation will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes.
