Description of key information

Toxicity of 1,5-naphthalene diisocyanate to aquatic algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) was determined according to EU method C.3 which is in most parts equivalent to OECD 203 as is given as 72 hour-ErC50 = 8.74 mg/L, related to geometric mean measured concentrations. 72 hour-EC10, based on growth rate, is given as 0.512 mg/L (Bayer Industry Services, 2006)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
8.74 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.512 mg/L

Additional information

A 72h- NOErC stated in the study report is statistically significant, but not from a biological point of view. The reported ErC10 of 0.512 mg/L is statistically valid and biologically significant.
