During the melting tests of the nickel electric furnace slag sample 09TT04683 was heated in Al2O3 crucible using nitrogen atmosphere and air atmosphere.

The endothermic peak in the curve of nitrogen atmosphere is at the temperature range 1416 – 1428 °C and at the same time the mass of the sample starts to decrease, which means, that melting starts, but some components also decompose or evaporate.

The endothermic peaks in the curve of air atmosphere is at the temperature range 1404 – 1437 °C and at the same time the mass of the sample starts to decrease, which means, that melting starts, but some components also decompose or evaporate.

Based on the TG/DSC measurements, the melting in air starts at the temperature 1341 °C for granulated type slags and at temperature 1027 °C for slow cooled type slags..
