Since no long-term tests with aquatic invertebrates are available for C9AS Na (CAS 1072-15-7), in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to another structurally related category member was conducted. Read-across data from the C10 homologue - C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0) were used. As the toxicity of alkyl sulfates is dependent on the carbon chain length, it is expected that the C10 homologue will be the worst case scenario for the C9 homologue.

One long-term toxicity study with Daphnia magna is available for C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0; BASF 2012). The test was performed according to OECD 211 guideline and GLP principles. Daphnids were exposed for 21 days under semi-static conditions to six test concentrations up to 6.86 mg/L (measured concentration). The followed parameters included mortality and reproduction of daphnids. The NOEC value based on the reproduction was determined to be 1.4 mg/L and the LOEC value as 6.86 mg/L (measured concentrations). Due to structural and property similarities, this result is also applicable to C9AS Na (CAS 1072-15-7).

It seems that both trophic levels - aquatic invertebrates and also fish are similarly sensitive to C9AS Na (CAS 142-87-0). The long-term NOEC values for aquatic invertebrates is 1.4 mg/L and for fish 1.357 mg/L.
