Additional information

Concerning aquatic short-term toxicity effects, tests for representatives of the trophic levels fish, invertebrates and microorganisms are available. For fish and Daphnia studies with acetic acid, chromium salt, basic are available, whereas for microorganisms a study with a structurally related compound (chromium(III)sulfate) was considered. The test results presented hereby confirm that the toxicity profile of acetic acid, chromium salt, basic for aquatic species is of low concern. For fish, i.e. Danio rerio, and invertebrates, i.e. Daphnia, same effect concentrations are reported with a LC50 and an EC50 of > 100 mg/L. For technical reasons a study with algae could not be conducted, since it was not possible to avoid precipitation of the test item within the pH range necessary for organisms and as required by guidelines. Thus no effect value was derived. The EC50 for toxicity to microorganisms was derived with the structurally related compound chromium(III)sulfate and determined to be 49 mg/L.
