Description of key information

Non flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

non flammable

Additional information

Acid Brown 214 has been evaluated by read across with Similar Substance 1. The tested substance was formed into an unbroken strip about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting base plate. A hot flame from a gas burner (with minimum diameter 5 mm) was applied to one end of the powder strip. The test substance does not ignite and propagate combustion.

Therefore Acid Brown 214 should not be considered as a flammable substance.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the Regulation EC n. 1272/2008 (CLP) Powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures (except powders of metals or metal alloys — see of the CLP Regulation) shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2,2 mm/s.

Since no combustion at all has been observed during flammability tests on Similar Substance 1, therefore Acid Brown 214 can be considered "not flammable" and no classification is warranted under the CLP Regulation.
