Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Bioconcentration of 1,2-dichloropropane does not appear to occur to a significant extent. Measured bioconcentration factors (BCF) ranged from 0.5 to 6.9, and are in excellent agreement with calculated values published in several handbooks.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
6.9

Additional information

Results from an OECD 305C guideline study on bioconcentration in fish, conducted using flow-through exposures of carp at 0.4 and 0.04 mg/L of 1,2-dichloropropane, demonstrated limited or no potential for 1,2-dichloropropane to bioconcentrate (BCF = 0.5-6.9). The low measured bioconcentration factor is supported by a calculated log BCF of < 1 to 1.29 reported in several handbooks (Howard; McKay et al.).
