Description of key information

Direct photolysis of 1,2-dichloropropane in water is not likely to be a significant removal process.  Indirect photolysis in the presence of sensitizers may contribute to the removal of 1,2-dichloropropane from water.

Direct photolysis of 1,2-dichloropropane in water is not likely to be a significant removal process, since the molecule does not have any chromophores which absorb wavelengths > 290 nm. Studies of the photolysis of 1,2-dichlorpropane in water in the presence of sensitizers such as hydrogen peroxide indicate that indirect photolysis may be an important removal process.
