Description of key information

The 24 and 48 hour EC50 value of Laponite Type 1 to Daphnia magna was estimated to be greater than 100mg/l. The highest no observed effect concentration (NOEC) after 48 hours was 100mg/l. The lowest test concentration which immobilised all twenty Daphnia within 48 hours could not be determined as no daphnia were immobilised.

None (0%) of the twenty control Daphnia, maintained in dilution water were immobilised during the study, and no Daphnia were trapped at the surface of the water in the control vessels, this fulfils the validity criteria of the study which states that control immobilisation must not exceed 10% at the end of the test.

The full water quality measurements were within acceptable limits. Specifically, the dissolved oxygen concentration remained greater than 3mg/l, which fulfils the validity criteria of the study. Analytical measurement of the concentration of dissolved Lithium in the exposure solutions showed the mean measured concentrations were within 20% of nominal concentrations. Therefore in accordance with OECD Guidelines, the nominal concentrations have been used in the determination of the EC50and NOEC values.
