Short-term toxicity to fish
The lethal concentration (LC50) value of 5-nitrosalicylic acid in fish[Alburnus alburnus] in a 96 hr study on mortality effect was found to be 228.214 mg/L.Thus,considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that 5-nitrosalicylic acid does not exhibit short term toxicity to fish [Alburnus alburnus].
Long-term toxicity to fish
According to annex IX of column I , Long-term toxicity testing on fish need not to be conducted as it is already provided as part of Annex VIII requirements.Therefore this study was considered to be waived.
Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
The effective concentration (EC50) value of 5-nitrosalicylic acid in aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia Magna) in a 48 hr study on the basis of immobilization effect was estimated to be 244.4349 mg/L. Thus considering the value from CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance, it is concluded that 5-nitrosalicylic acid does not exhibits short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia Magna).
Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
According to annex IX of column I ; Long-term toxicity testing on invertebrate (species : Daphnia) need not to be conducted as it is already provided as a part of Annex VII requirements.Therefore this study was considered to be waived.
Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
The no observed effect concentration (NOEC) of 5-nitrosalicylic acid in a aquatic green algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) in a 72 hr study on the basis of growth effect was estimated to be 5.3331mg/L.
Toxicity to microorganisms
The inhibition growth concentration (IGC50) value of 5-nitrosalicylic acid in microorganism (Tetrahymena pyriformis) in a 48 hr study on the basis of growth inhibition effect was estimated to be 127.266 mg/L.
