Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
A study shows that bromotrifluoromethane in concentration of 1 ppbv (for 18 to 45 days) causes various effects on plants. The effects differ from the results obtained with other halone. BTFM has to be considered dangerous to vegetation as it interacts with vital metabolic pathways of plants.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
A study shows that bromotrifluoromethane in concentration of 1 ppbv (for 18 to 45 days) causes various effects on plants. The effects differ from the results obtained with other halones. The present study shows that halones, although regarded as beneficial in protecting human ressources from fire, have to be considered dangerous to vegetation as they interact with vital metabolic pathways of plants. When concentrations build up due to fire fighting or leaks, damages have to be expected. Moreover, although plants did not die under the prolonged fumigation conditions of the experiment, it has to be expected that an environment with multiple pollution will give rise to multiple stress syndromes and the exhaustion of defence reactions.
