Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and

transport in stable sideways position (recovery position).

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention.

On skin contact:

Immediately wash thoroughly with soap and water, seek medical attention.

On contact with eyes:

Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open,

consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:

Rinse mouth immediately and then drink plenty of water, seek medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Toxic if swallowed.

Very toxic by inhalation and in contact with skin.

Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect.

Also harmful: danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure if swallowed.

May cause harm to the unborn child.

Hazards: No hazard is expected under intended use and appropriate handling.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), for formation of

methaemoglobin administer dimethylaminophenol followed by sodium thiosulphate. Artificial

respiration with oxygen.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

water spray, carbon dioxide, dry powder, foam

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

hydrogencyanide...%; hydrocyanic acid...%

Vapors and/or decomposition products are irritant and/or toxic.

Advice for fire-fighters

Special protective equipment:

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal protection: wear a tightly closed chemical protection suit and a self-contained breathing

apparatus.

Environmental precautions

Do not empty into drains. Contain contaminated water/firefighting water.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

For large amounts: Pick up with suitable absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose

binder, kieselguhr). Pack in tightly closed containers for disposal.

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Processing machines must be fitted with local exhaust ventilation. Wear suitable protective clothing

and gloves. Avoid aerosol formation. Use only in enclosed systems.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Unsuitable materials for containers: aluminum

Further information on storage conditions: Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame.

Keep container tightly closed and dry; store in a cool place.

Specific end use(s)

For the relevant identified use(s) the advice mentioned in this section is to be observed.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Components with occupational exposure limits

No occupational exposure limits known.

Components with PNEC

75-12-7: formamide

freshwater: 0,5 mg/l

marine water: 0,5 mg/l

intermittent release: 5 mg/l

oral (secondary poisoning):

No PNEC value available.

soil: 0,151 mg/l

STP: 100 mg/l

sediment (freshwater): 2,23 mg/l

sediment (marine water): 2,23 mg/l

Components with DNEL

75-12-7: formamide

worker: Long-term exposure- systemic effects, Inhalation: 0,66 mg/m3

worker: Long-term exposure - local effects, Inhalation: 6,66 mg/m3

worker: Long-term exposure- systemic effects, dermal: 0,952 mg/kg

8.2. Exposure controls

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection:

Respiratory protection in case of vapour/aerosol release. Self-contained breathing apparatus.

Suitable respiratory protection for lower concentrations or short-term effect: Full face mask with

combination filter type A - P2 (EN 136, 14387, 143)

Hand protection:

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6,

corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):

fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness

butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

polyvinylchloride (PVC) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

Suitable materials short-term contact and/or splashes (recommended: At least protective index 2,

corresponding > 30 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374)

natural rubber/natural latex (NR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness

nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness

Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove

manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g.

temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in

practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

Eye protection:

Tightly fitting safety goggles (splash goggles) (e.g. EN 166)

Body protection:

full protection suit with breathing-air supply (f.e. according to EN 943)

General safety and hygiene measures

Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapour/spray. Wearing of closed work

clothing is recommended.

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice
