Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Biodegradation - Not readily biodegradable with non-adapted inoculum

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
inherently biodegradable

Additional information

A number of tests of ready biodegradability have been undertaken with the substance, some of these examining the effects of solubilizing agents, extending the test period beyond 28 days and the use of an adapted inoculum. The results obtained with non-adapted inoculum did not demonstrate ready biodegradability although up to 20% degradation was observed. When an adapted inoculum was used ready biodegradability was demonstrated.

In addtion, the potential for the substance to be readily biodegradable has been calculated using the software BIOWIN v4.10 and the results indicate that diisobutyl hexahydrophthalate (DIBE) is expected to be readily biodegradable.
