Effect values of the hydrolysis product HCl (7647 -01 -0) were not considered in the ecotoxicological evaluation of the substance since the observed toxicity was not due to intrinsic properties of the molecule, but is due to pH effects.

Self-classification

Aquatic compartment

Due to the rapid hydrolysis of the parent compound, the classification will be based on the results for the hydrolysis product tetradecanol.

Effect values of the hydrolysis product HCl (7647 -01 -0) were not considered in the ecotoxicological evaluation of the substance since the observed toxicity was not due to intrinsic properties of the molecule, but is due to pH effects.

Following DSD/DPD, the substance is not to be classified as dangerous for the environment. The estimated log Pow is > 3, but the test substance is readily biodegradable. No toxic effects were observed at the maximum water solubility of 0.19 mg/L.

Following CLP (GHS-EU), the substance is to be classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment based on the chronic toxicity data. Although the substance is readily biodegradable, the chronic toxicity is below 0.01 mg/L. Therefore, the substance has to be classified in Category Chronic 1. The M-factor is 1.

Atmospheric compartment

The test substance is not in Annex I of Regulation (EC) 2037/2000 on substances that deplete the ozone layer.

The test substance does not belong to the green house gases listed in P Forster, PV Ramaswamy et al. Changes in Atmospheric Constituents and in Radiative Forcing.
