Description of key information

Decomposition of the sample Jeffamine RFD 270 occurred at 137°C in a GLP study according to EU Method A.2 (Boiling temperature), Siwoloboff and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (Younis S, 2012).

Results of Siwoloboff method:

Run 1: Discolouration of the sample began from 224.6°C. Bubbles were observed around 242.6°C, but no boiling was observed up to 270°C. The test was then terminated as discolouration of the sample prevented further observations.

Run 2: Discolouration and bubbles were both first observed around 250°C and a boiling temperature of 288.7°C was obtained.

Results of the Differential Scanning Calorimetry:

A first test conducted in an open aluminium crucible, was inconclusive (a run-away event began at 170°C).

A second test conducted in a sealed gold crucible showed an exothermic event (decomposition) from 136.7 °C.
