Description of key information

The substance is characterised by an estimated bioconcentration factor of 128.3 L/kg ww. Both possible hydrolysis products (bis-aspartic-mono-acid triethylester, bis-aspartic-di-acid diethylester) have a calculated BCF value of 3.162 L/kg ww (Currenta, 2011b, 2011c, 2011d).

As the bioconcentration factor was estimated by the means of EPI-Suite software BCFBAF, the hydrolysis of the substance was not considered and the calculated value solely reflects the bioaccumulation potential of the parent substance.

If the half-life, at environmentally relevant pH values (4-9) and temperature, is greater than 12 hours, it is assumed that the rate of hydrolysis is lower than that for uptake by the exposed organisms (Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, R.7c, ECHA, 2008c). Therefore, the parent substance as well as the hydrolysis products should be considered for the assessment of the bioaccumulation potential.

Caused by the hydrolysis of the parent substance, bis-aspartic-mono-acid triethylester and bis-aspartic-di-acid diethylester of the parent substance are formed. As the hydrolysis products are more hydrophilic, having an estimated BCF of 3.162 L/kg ww, a low potential for bioaccumulation is assumed.
