Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
- General advice: Have the product container, label, or Safety Data Sheet with you when calling the Chemtura emergency number, a poison control centre, or physician, or going for treatment.
- Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Get medical attention.
- Skin contact: Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/ attention.
- Eye contact: Hold eyelids apart and flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.
- Ingestion: If conscious, make the victim drink the following: Drink 1 or 2 glasses of water. Get medical attention immediately.
- Treatment: For specialist advice physicians should contact the Poisons Information Service.
Fire-fighting measures
- Suitable extinguishing media: Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.
- Specific hazards during fire fighting: The product is not flammable. Burning produces irritant fumes. Exposure to decomposition products may be a hazard to health.
- Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Use personal protective equipment.
- Further information: Prevent fire extinguishing water from contaminating surface water or the ground water system.
Accidental release measures
- Personal precautions: Use personal protective equipment.
- Environmental precautions: Avoid release to the environment.
- Methods for cleaning up: Dam up. Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers.
Handling and storage
- Advice on safe handling: Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Use personal protective equipment as required. Do not breathe vapours or spray mist. Use only in well-ventilated areas.
- Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed. Protect from contamination.

Exposure controls / personal protection
EXPOSURE CONTROLS
Engineering Methods: Use with local exhaust ventilation. Adequate general ventilation is recommended when handling to control airborne levels. Use mechanical ventilation for general area control.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Respiratory protection: In the case of vapour formation use a respirator with an approved filter.
- Hand protection: Rubber gloves.
- Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields or Safety goggles.
- Skin and body protection: impervious clothing.
- Hygiene measures: Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Stability and reactivity
- Reactivity: No dangerous reaction known under conditions of normal use.
- Chemical stability: Stable under normal conditions.
- Hazardous reactions: Will not occur.
- Conditions to avoid: None known.
- Materials to avoid: Strong oxidizing agents, Alkalis, Amines.
- Hazardous decomposition products: Hydrogen bromide, Bromine, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Carbon monoxide.
Disposal considerations
- Waste treatment methods: Dispose of as hazardous waste in compliance with local and national regulations. Dispose of wastes in an approved waste disposal facility.
