Name:
Boundary composition of bis(2-ethylhexyl) tetrabromophthalate
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
Boundary composition of bis(2-ethylhexyl) tetrabromophthalate
Name:
bis(2-ethylhexyl) tetrabromophthalate
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
bis(2-ethylhexyl) tetrabromophthalate
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The test substance being released into the environment undergoes an abiotic degradation reaction. A hydrolysis half-life of <15 days at pH 7 and 20°C was observed with tetrabromophthalic acid as the single hydrolysis product. As a conclusion the degradation product has to be considered in the PBT assessment for the parent substance, as well.

The parent substance does neither fulfill the P/vP, B/vB nor the T criterium.

Tetrabromophthalic acid does not fulfill the B/vB criterium and as a conclusion the P/vP and T criterium do not have to be assessed further and a classification as PBT and vPvB can be excluded.

(2-ethylhexyl) tetrabromophthalate does not fulfill the B/vB criterium and as a conclusion the P/vP an T criterium do not have to be assessed further and a classification as PBT and vPvB can be excluded.

As a conclusion neither the parent substance nor the hydrolysis or transformation products fulfill the PBT nor the vPvB criteria and therefore the substance does not have to be classified as PBT or vPvB.
