Description of key information

Log Kow: -1.4, -0.2 and 0.3 at 20°C for propylsilanetriol, and dimer and trimer of propylsilanetriol, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirement to conduct a log Kow study for the submission substance is waived. The study would be technically difficult because the substance is salt that is only stable in aqueous solution at high pH (>14).

In solution at pH 7 and low concentration (conditions relevant for the environment), propylsilanetriol will predominate. A log Kow value of -1.4 was determined for propylsilanetriol using a validated QSAR estimation method. Under certain conditions, the dimer and trimer of propylsilanetriol may be formed. Log Kow values of -0.2 and 0.3 were predicted for the dimer and trimer respectively using a validated QSAR estimation method. The potassium salt of propylsilanetriol will behave no differently to the parent silanol under equivalent conditions of concentration and pH.
