Description of key information

According to 9.1 column 2 of REACH Annex IX (aquatic toxicity), long-term testing shall be proposed by the registrant if the Chemical Safety Assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms. Acute toxicity studies for fish and algae and chronic toxicity studies for daphnia and algae are available for 3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one. Neither in the short-term tests, nor the long-term tests adverse effects could be observed up to the water solubility limit. Due to a low BCF (166.5 L/kg), indicating no potential for bioaccumulation, the investigation of further long-term tests seems to be unjustified and overestimated. On the basis of the present data the substance does not have to be classified and therefore no hazard to any environmental compartment is expected.
