Manganese sulphide is a dark green powder. The melting temperature of manganese sulphide is > 723 ± 0.5 K. The relative density of MnS was determined to be 3.99 at a temperature of 22.5 ± 0.5 °C. The results of the tests on particle size show that the substance would be an inhalation hazard as more than 10% of the particles are less than 100 microns in diameter. The water solubility of the test material has been determined to be 3.89 x 10-3 g/l of manganese in solution at 20.0 ± 0.5°C This is equivalent to 6.16 x 10-3 g/L or 6.15 mg/L of manganese sulphide in solution based on the theoretical manganese content of the test material. Manganese sulphide is non-flammable.
