Additional information

Skin irritation:

1) BASF XVI/209, 1966:

The fur of 2 rabbits was clipped and unchanged Antistatikum 743 was applicated using a soaked test patch (2.5 x 2.5 cm). The patch was applied onto the back of the animals. After an occlusive exposure period of 1, 5 and 15 minutes as well as 20 hours the application area was washed with Lutrol/water (1:1). Skin effects were documentated 24 hours and 8 days after the removal of the test patches. The untreated skin or ear of the same animals were used as control. 24 h after the exposure for 1, 5, and 15 minutes, respectively, the skin on the back showed a slight erythema which emerged as severe irritation 8 days after the application. Treatment of the back skin for 20 h caused marked (full thickness) necrosis with dermatorrhagia after 24 h and 8 days.

2) BASF XVII/299, 1967:

Eye irritation: 1) BASF XVI/209, 1966: 50 mm3 of Antistatikum 743 were introduced into the lower conjunctival sac of 2 rabbits' right eyes. The left eyes were used as control and treated with NaCl solution. The eyes were not washed after the application. The animals were observed for 8 days with readings after 1 hour, 24 hours and 8 days.

The test item caused marked opacity as well as incorporating vessels, sanies, and scar formation at the eyelid which were not reversible within 8 days.

2) BASF XVII/299, 1967:

The test item caused marked opacity, oedema, and redness as well as incorporating vessels which were not reversible within 8 days.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance causes severe skin burns (EU: R34, GHS: skin irritation cat. 1C, H314) according to EU directive 67/548/EEC and EU classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.

The test substance causes irreversible eye damage (EU: R34, GHS: eye irritation cat. 1, H318) according to EU directive 67/548/EEC and EU classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
