The purpose of this study was the determination of the relative density of the test item according to the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Part A: Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties. A.3. Relative Density: method: Gas comparison pycnometer and OECD test guideline, OECD 109 (1995) Density of liquids and solids and DIN 66137-2 (2004): Determination of solid state density, Part 2: Gas pycnometry.
The relative density of bismuth subnitrate at ambient temperature (compared to water at 4 °C) is D4R = 5.29. The ambient temperature was determined to be 22.8 °C. According to the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, A.3., solids can be measured at ambient temperature (20 - 25 °C).
