Additional information

One valid study according to guideline methods is available.

In a 72-hour static test with the green alga Scenedesmus subspicatus according to OECD 201 the algae toxicity of caffeine was studied. The following nominal test substance concentrations were set up: 0, 6.25, 12.5, 20, 50 and 100 mg/L (4 replicates each). Concentrations were not verified analytically. Significant differences regarding growth rate and biomass integral were determined statistically. According to the statistical calculations the NOEC is 6.25 mg/L. The 72 hour EC50 was estimated to be >100 mg/L.
