Reference
Endpoint:
bioaccumulation in aquatic species: fish
Type of information:
(Q)SAR
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
results derived from a valid (Q)SAR model and falling into its applicability domain, with adequate and reliable documentation / justification
Justification for type of information:
According to REACH Annex VIII column 2, bioaccumulation testing can be waived for substances with a low potential for bioaccumulation (log Kow < 3). MMB has a log Kow < 1. Hence, bioaccumulation testing can be waived for this substance.
A QSAR calculation was done for the bioconcentration factor of MMB using BCFBAF v3.01 (as available in US EPA EPISUITE). It resulted in an estimated log BCF of 0.5 (BCF = 3.16 L/kg ww). The BCF for MMB is < 2000 L/Kg ww and therefore bioaccumulation of this substance is not expected
Principles of method if other than guideline:
QSAR calculation using EPISUITE BCFBAF v3.01 (2012)
Key result
Type:
BCF
Value:
3.16 L/kg
Basis:
whole body w.w.
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The predicted log BCF = 0.5 (3.16 L/kg) based on measured log Pow = 0.18.

Description of key information

Estimated log BCF = 0.500 (BCF = 3.16 L/kg ww)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
3.16 L/kg ww
