SCP liquor is registered as a transported isolated intermediate. The estimation of systemic and local effects and derivation of DN(M)ELs is required for the chemical safety assessment (CSA) of substances manufactured/imported/used in quantities 10 t/a onwards. CSA does not need to be performed for transported isolated intermediates.
Justification for data waiving for further toxicological endpoints is:
- SCP liquor is registered as a transported isolated intermediate, which is manufactured and consumed (turned into another substance) during its whole life cycle under strictly controlled conditions, and no testing outside Annex VII is required. No literature data was available.
According to the experimental results the toxic and corrosive properties of SCP liquor were:
- Non-toxic (acute oral),
- Non-corrosive (skin),
- Non-irritant (skin),
- Not ocular corrosive or severe irritant (eye),
- Non-mutagenic (bacteria).
Additionally, the need for classification according to the CLP and DSD/DPD rules was based on the expected maximum concentrations of those identified main ingredients reported in the SCP liquor typical composition (1.2), which hold a harmonized classification for acute irritative properties (formic acid, EC 200-579-1 and acetic acid, EC 200-580-7)
According to the main ingredients the toxic and corrosive properties of SCP liquor were:
- Non-toxic (acute oral),
- Non-toxic or Harmful (acute dermal),
- Irritant (skin and eye).
None of the identified main ingredients hold a harmonized classification for any long-term toxicological impacts, and no classification is suggested due to data lacking.
