Conclusions:
The NOEC of the test substance was determined to be 1000 mg/L. The 30-min EC10 and EC50 of the test item is considered to be > 1000 mg/L. In conclusion, the test item has no toxic potential to aquatic microorganisms.
Executive summary:

To assess the toxic potential of the test substance to aquatic microorganisms, a test for Inhibition of oxygen consumption of activated sludge according to ISO guideline ISO/DIS 8192 Part B (draft 1984) was carried out in compliance with GLP principles. Non-adapted activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant was exposed to test substance concentrations of 100 and 1000 mg/L, respectively (one vessel per concentration). In addition, a positive control with the reference substance 3,5 -dichlorphenol was performed. The mean blind value for the respiration rate was determined to be 29 mg/L*h. In result, the EC50 of the reference substance was found to be 45 mg/L, confirming the suitability of the test system. At the concentration level of 100 mg test substance/L, no inhibitory effects on respiration were observeable. At the highest concentration of the test substance, a respiration inhibition of 3.4% was noted. Thus, the NOEC was determined to be 1000 mg/L. Consequently, the 30-min EC10 and EC50 is considered to be >1000 mg/L. In conclusion, the test item is not considered to be toxic to aquatic microorganisms, since the respiriation inhibition at the highest concentration tested was far below 20 %. Therefore, no inhibitory effect of the test substance to sewage treatment plants is to be expected.
