A concentration dependent increase in pink stamen hair mutations was seen in the concentration range of 50-150 mM o-phenylenediamine.

o-Phenylenediamine was found to be toxic at concentrations above 150 mM, and repressed flowering.

At 150 mM, o-phenylenediamine induced approximately a 28-fold increase in the mutant frequency over the negative control.

Conclusions:
Under the conditions employed in this study, o-phenylenediamine is mutagenic to Tradescantia clone 4430 relative to the negative control. The mutagenic potency of o-phenylenediamine in Tradescantia was 5.60 stamen hair mutants/µmole.
