Additional information

Short-term toxicity to fish :

The 24 hour LC50 value of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol in fish (Oryzias latipes) was found to be 5.6 mg/L (ppm). But the BCF value of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol reported was not >= 500 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable. Thus considering the CLP criteria for aquatic classification of the substance, it can be assumed to be in the classification of aquatic chronic 2 category as per the CLP regulation.

Supporting study of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol also indicates that the test substance does not exhibit short term toxicity to fish as per the C & L criteria set by EU.

Long-term toxicity to fish :

According to annex IX of column I,Long-term toxicity testing on fish need not to be conducted as it is already provided as part of Annex VIII requirements. Therefore this study was considered waived.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates :

The effective concentration (EC50) value of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol in aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia magna) in a 48 hr study on the effect basis of immobilisation was found to be 13.99909 mg/L. But the BCF value of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol reported was not >= 500 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable. Thus considering the CLP criteria for aquatic classification of the substance, it can be assumed to be non toxic to the aquatic environment.

Supporting study of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol also indicates that the test substance does not exhibit short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate as per the C & L criteria set by EU.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates :

According to annex IX of column I;Long-term toxicity testing on invertebrate (species : Daphnia) need not to be conducted as it is already provided as a part of Annex VII requirements. Therefore this study was considered waived.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria :

The 72 hour EC50 value of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol in green algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) was found to be 5.2 mg/L (ppm).

Toxicity to microorganisms :

The effective concentration (EC50) value of tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol in Tetrahymena pyriformis in a 24 hr study on population effect was estimated to be 49.55056 mg/L.
