Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of octocrilene to microorganisms was tested in three studies investigating the respiration inhibition by the substance in activated sludge and Pseudomonas putida respectively. Two tests on respiration inhibition in activated sludge were performed. In a study following guideline ISO 8192 an IC50 > 10000 mg/l was determined. A guideline study according to OECD 209 detected no respiration inhibition up to a substance concentration of 1000 mg/l. The results are comparable to a test on P. putida conducted in compliance with DIN 38412, part 27 and reporting an EC50 > 10000 mg/l. However, a solubiliser was used in this study.
