Description of key information

Fish

The acute toxicity of the test item Pigment Red 247 to fish (zebrafish) was determined according to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203 (1992)and EU Council Regulation No. 440/2008/C.1.

A static test was performed as a limit test with the saturated solution (nominal loading: 10.0 mg/L) of the test item. The test had a duration of 96 hours. 7 test organisms were exposed to the test concentration and the control, respectively. The water quality parameters pH-value, temperature and oxygen saturation, measured after 0, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h, were determined to be within the acceptable limits.

All effect levels are given based on the nominal loading of the saturated solution of the test item Pigment Red 247. The saturated solution of nominal 10.0 mg/L was found to have no effect on the vitality of zebrafish after 96 hours.

Daphnia

In the acute immobilisation test with Daphnia magna (STRAUS), the effects of the saturated solution* with a nominal loading of 1.00 mg/L of the test item Pigment Red 247 were determined according to OECD 202 (2004).The limit test was conducted under static conditions over a period of 48 hours. In the saturated solution with a nominal loading of 1.00 mg/L of the test item Pigment Red 247, no effects were observed on Daphnia magna.

Alga

The toxicity of Pigment Red 247 to the unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according to the principles of OECD 201 and Council Regulation (EC) No. 266/2016/Method C.3 .The aim of the study was to assess the effects on growth rate and yield over a period of 72 hours.

In this study, no inhibition of growth on the freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was found after 72 hours exposure to the test item Pigment Red 247. The EC50-values for inhibition of growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) after 72 hours were > 0.243 mg/L, respectively. This concentration refers to a saturated solution with a nominal loading of 10 mg test item /L. The NOEC-values for inhibition of growth rate and yield after 72 hours were 0.243 mg/L, respectively.

Bacteria

A Respiration Inhibition Test with activated sludge according to OECD Guideline No. 209 (2010) was carried out with the test item Pigment Red247. The test system was activated sludge of the municipal treatment plant . The test was carried out under static conditions with the limit test item concentration 1000 mg/L. The NOEC of the test item Pigment Red 247 is ≥ 1000 mg/L. Pigment Red 247 caused no inhibiting effects on activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant at the limit concentration of 1000 mg/L.
