Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Additional information
The solubility of the constituents from the reaction mass of heptachromium tricarbide and trichromium dicarbide is so low that they have no effect on the terrestrial toxicity. Chromium is abundant in Earth crust and consequently also in terrestrial and sediment environment, meaning that the contribution of anthropogenic chromium from the reaction mass of heptachromium tricarbide and trichromium dicarbide to the natural pools of chromium is not relevant either in terms of added amounts or in terms of toxicity. Based on these exposure considerations, additional sediment or soil testing is not warranted.
For comparison, the solubility of chromium from the reaction mass of heptachromium tricarbide and trichromium dicarbide (acute T/D test) is <1 microg/L (quantification limit) (Jiang et al. 2011) and from chromium oxide (chronic T/D test) <0.01 microg/L (Hedberg and Odnevall Wallinder 2012). The mean "bioavailable" (EDTA extractable) total chromium concentration in soil samples has been 0.053 mg/kg dry weight (WHO CICAD 76).
More information can be found in the ICDA (2010) environmental assessment, which is available upon request from the registrant.
