Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General advice: Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.
Inhalation: Move the victim to fresh air and keep at rest. Call a physician or poison control center immediately. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed.
Skin contact: Wash off thoroughly with plenty of soap and water, if available with polyethyleneglycol 400, subsequently rinse with water. Call a physician or poison control center immediately.
Eye contact: In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eye.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth. Call a physician or poison control center immediately. If conscious give immediately one glass of water to drink. Ingest activated charcoal.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
Symptoms: Methaemoglobinemia
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable: Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:
Hazardous decomposition products due to incomplete combustion, In the event of fire the following may be released: Hydrogen fluoride, Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Advice for firefighters
Special protective equipment for firefighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.
Further information: Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray.
Accidental release measures
Precautions: Keep unauthorized people away. Avoid contact with spilled product or contaminated surfaces. Use personal protective equipment.
Environmental precautions: Do not allow to get into surface water, drains and ground water.
Methods for cleaning up: Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.
Handling and storage
This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each manufacturing site.
Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Processor/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.
Advice on safe handling: Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.
Advice on protection against fire and explosion: Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.
Requirements for storage areas and containers: Store in original container. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Store in a place accessible by authorized persons only.
Advice on common storage: Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs.
