Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Endpoint:
- oxidising solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 2015
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids))
- GLP compliance:

TREATMENT OF TEST MATERIAL PRIOR TO TESTING
- Treatment of test material prior to testing: Sample dried at 105°C and sieved < 125µm - Contact with:
- powdered cellulose
- Key result
- Sample tested:
- other: 2:1 sample to cellulose ratio (w/w)
- Parameter:
- preliminary test
- Remarks on result:
- slow smouldering
- Remarks:
- Burning did not propagate. Localised smouldering was sustained for 330s after the ignition source was removed
- Sample tested:
- other: 2:1 barium nitrate to cellulose ratio
- Parameter:
- preliminary test
- Result:
- 32 s
- Remarks on result:
- vigorous reaction in the preliminary test
- Remarks:
- sample completely finished burning at 48 s
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- the substance should be classed as "not an oxidising solid"
- Executive summary:
The oxidizing properties were determined in accordance with the EU A.12 test guideline and using a butane micro torch as a source of ignition in a preliminary test. In this test, the mixture of test item/cellulose (ratio 2:1) was compared to a reference/cellulose (same ratio) which vigorously reacted in 32s. With the test item/cellulose mixture, burning did not propagate. The substance should be classed as “not on oxidizing solid”.
Reference
The test material/cellulose (2:1) reaction is moderate, with no burning time noted: The burning did not propagate down the test item/cellulose cone. The test item blackened when in contact with the ignition source.
Description of key information
The substance should be classed as "not an oxidising solid"
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Oxidising properties:
- non oxidising
