Short-term toxicity to fish

Description of key information

Two studies according to OECD 203 and/or EC C.1 guidelines and according to GLP principles have been performed under static or semi static conditions. The static study showed a loss by measured concentration of more than 20% and therefore does not fulfill the ciriteria for validity of the test and was therefore disregarded. No death occured during the study. In the second semi static study the measured concentration was stable and can be considered of appropriate quality. In this study also no death occured. The highest concentration can serve as a realistic observed worst-case NOEC. The results OECD Guideline 203 test shows low toxicity. The determined LC50 value of > 100 mg/L does not result in classification for aquatic toxicity.

Additional information

One study according to OECD 203 and/or EC C.1 guidelines and according to GLP principles has been performed under static conditions. Measured concentrations (110 mg a.s./L on day 0 and 11.7 mg a.s./L on day 4 showed a loss greater than 20% and therefore the study does not fulfill the criteria for validity of the test. and is disregarded. No death occurred during the study. OECD calculation based on mean measured concentrations (96-h LC50 >60.9 mg/L) should not used for risk assessment as better data from the semi-static test are available.

The results from a semi static study according to OECD 203 and/or EC C.1 guidelines and according to GLP principles showed stable concentration during the test duration of 96 h. At the highest measured concentration 95.4 mg a.s./L no death occurred. As this study was a limit test no final conclusions should be drawn from the results.

 

Based on absence of death in both studies 1,3 -Dioxolan has an 96-hour LC0 of >95.4 mg a.s./L.

 

For further evaluation of the aquatic toxicity to fish a QSAR evaluation with the ECOSAR (v1.00) was performed.

From the available studies, because one study failed and the other is based on a limit test no fixed value for the LC50 can be derived. In any case the results will not qualify for classification and labeling.
