Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
oxidising liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Reach - Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment- Chapter R7a
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Screening procedure to identify substances which may have oxidising properties basing on the chemical structure.

1,1,2-trichloro-1-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)-ethane is an organic compound which contains oxygen, fluorine, chlorine and these elements are chemically bounded only to carbon.

Furthermore, the substance does not contain any of the chemical groups known to confer oxidising properties as reported in the attached table.

Therefore, according to the screening criteria reported in the REACH Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment- Chapter R7a, basing on the chemical structure, it can be concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that 1,1,2-trichloro-1-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)-ethane does not have oxidising properties.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Basing on the chemical structure, it can be concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that 1,1,2-trichloro-1-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)-ethane does not have oxidising properties.
Executive summary:

The oxidising properties of 1,1,2-trichloro-1-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)-ethane were evaluated according to the screening procedure described in the REACH Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment- Chapter R7a where a set of criteria is described to identify materials being potential oxidiser.

As reported in the Guidance, experience with oxidising substances has provided us with a list of chemical groups and elements that are known to confer oxidising properties. Furthermore, for organic substances (with the exception of peroxides) testing does not need to be carried out for substances if:

o The substance does not contain oxygen, fluorine or chlorine; or

o The substance contains oxygen, fluorine or chlorine and these elements are chemically bonded only to carbon.

The test item 1,1,2-trichloro-1-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)-ethane is an organic compound which contains oxygen, fluorine, chlorine and these elements are chemically bonded only to carbon, furthermore the substance does not contain any of the chemical groups known to confer oxidising properties.

Therefore, according to the screening criteria reported in the REACH Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment- Chapter R7a, basing on the chemical structure, it can be concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that 1,1,2-tricloro-1-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)-ethane does not have oxidising properties.
